Scraps of Darkness Kit . . . part 1.

My first Scraps of Darkness kit arrived last week and on first impressions – I was not too impressed. Now that's not to say the kit wasn’t fabulous its just that it wasn’t ‘me’ but then that was the idea behind subscribing to the kit in the first place, to take me away from the pretty pastels, the florals, the blooms and such like.

So over the weekend I took part in a Cyber Crop on UKScrappers (LO’s from that fun to follow!) and in between challenges and compulsory Bingo! I played with my SOD kit.

This is the result – Im still not sure whether I like or not, its certainly different from anything I’ve used before. The range of papers are Bo Bunny’s Et Cetera. Everything from the papers to the blooms to the alphas has had some inky done to it and then the chipboard alpha’s and scrolls had a dose of crackle medium too.

The photo is an old one which was actually a ‘proof’ from a photographer but we didn’t buy any photo’s from him as they weren’t that good! That said, I always kept this small pic because I think there is something cute about it. I altered the colour to sepia in Photoshop (something Im not very good at, but hey I try!)

So-Precious-To-Me

I know I was suppose to do something away from the ‘norm’ with the kit but I kept being drawn to add blooms! They had a dose of distress ink to make them all blend with each other. I do like the effects of the crackle medium its the first time I’ve used it even though I have had the bottle for well over a year!

So-Precious-To-Me-2

So, there you have it my first LO with the Scraps of Darkness kit!  There is ton’s more stash to this kit, I have only just scratched the surface. The other papers are from Teresa Collins and whilst still not what I would normal buy they seem a little less daunting than these Bo Bunny ones. Watch this space there will be more.

And The Story Begins

This week the challenge on UKScrappers was set by Nerlly and its been a bit tricky for me to meet all the criteria. The theme is Anticipation – scrap something I have been / was excited about and make an embellishment using something from the event. Well that was the bit that had me stumped, I just didn't really have anything to hand that I could use.

I then came up with the idea of scrapping one of my old photo’s for the baby albums I am making for my kids. I used  my August LE kit from My Creative Scrapbook and this is what I ended up with.

effort-3

I cant believe I have actually scrapped this photo as I have had it hidden away for over 13 years!!  I was only 20 weeks pregnant with our twins when this was taken and I already felt enormous. It is the last photo of me during the pregnancy as I wouldn’t have anymore taken as I got bigger – and I got a lot bigger!!

The embellishment I made includes a picture from my first scan at 12 weeks which was when the twin pregnancy was confirmed. I love that scan picture –Amy and Tony look like they are sleeping in bunk beds. That is how they stayed through the entire pregnancy, with Tony on the top and Amy on the bottom.

The other criteria from the challenge was to use a clock or clock hands and to use something I didnt like and alter it.  The black floral paper in the upper circle is my altered piece. I was just plain black and white so I chalked it to match in with  the colour scheme.

She Ain’t Heavy . . . .

She’s my Sister
She-ain't-heavy-.-.

A layout featuring another one of my older photo’s.This one was taken back in 2008, the year we moved from England to Ireland. We all went for an evening walk on the Five Fingers Stretch in Lagg to watch the sunset and Amy got tired of walking so Joe carried her. I love this photo.

The colour scheme of orange, blue and beige was governed by the colours in the photo, something I like to do a lot. The papers are all various ranges from Sassafras and so are the blooms.  I stuck the cardboard stickers onto coloured card to give them the edge effect and to make them a bit more sturdy for bending and shaping.

So, we are over the half way mark during the month of September and the weather here in Ireland is not the best. Its been raining on and off for days and the winds are blowing a gale mostly, perfect weather for staying in the craft room and scrapping, which is just what I intend to do over the weekend as there is a cyber crop going on within the Red Ribbon House on UKScrappers, I just a supply of Pepsi Max and a few bars of chocolate and I will be ready to go !

Joe We Adore You

Our eldest son Joe has been the subject of my scrapping a lot lately and I have really enjoyed working on some more masculine layouts.

This photo was taken during our holiday in Scotland back in June whilst we were river walking. I used the photo to determine the colour scheme for the LO and inked lots of the embellishments to make them co-ordinate.

We-Adore-You

I’ve had the ‘you’ button for ages now I cant even remember where I got it from!

We-Adore-You-CU1

The chipboard name plate was an undesirable shade of purple so I gave it a few coats of Lake Mist acrylic paint and then a light brushing over with some Black Soot distress ink to make it fit in with the page.

This LO is going to be my contribution to a game of Chinese Whispers I am playing with some of my fellow teamies from the Rik Rak Ravers on UKScrappers. The idea is to pass on my LO to the next person for them to use as a sketch, then they will send their LO onto the next person and so on. It should be fun to see how all the LO’s differ at the end.

1998

What a year that was!  On the Once Upon A Sketch blog there is a challenge to scrap a page about a memorable year. I chose 1998 the year I gave birth to our twins. This is the fabulous sketch :

September 1stonce upon a sketch

And here is my page :
1998
1998

Not the most flattering photo of me but one I love for all the right reasons. During my pregnancy I became so huge I began to doubt that there were only 2 babies in there! The journaling reads “ On Friday 31st July 1998 I gave birth to Twins. At 4.03pm Amy Patricia Morrison was born followed a minute later, at 4.04pm by Anthony Terence Morrison. Both babies were healthy and happy after being delivered at exactly 37 weeks”

I used Bo Bunny Alissa which I have had in my stash pile for a fair while. I like the colour combo of the papers which I thought represented a girl/boy LO well, and I converted the photo into black and white so that it co-ordinated better. There is something very relaxing about cutting out flowers by hand and I spent a quiet evening do just that with these flowers.

1998-CU

I really enjoyed putting this page together as it goes hand in hand my personal mission to scrap older photo’s and use up some papers that I have been stroking for far too long! I love the sketch too, so Im thinking I may do another page with it using a photo of me when our first son Joe was born.

Diagonal Equals Comfy Bedtime

. . . . especially when you are almost 6” 2!

The weekly challenge on UKScrappers this week was to use this sketch:

6a00d8341c5c3753ef0133f4d14852970b-800wi

And here is what I did with my LO:

diagonal-equals-comfy-bedti

The photo is of my eldest son Joe during a recent caravan holiday in Scotland. The beds were so small the only way he could get a decent nights sleep was to lay diagonal across 2 beds!  The challenge also involved using only 2 colours and a something to do with our favourite subject at school, hence the title based on a math equation.

Im having a make-over!

OK, I thought it was time for a change. I went blog hopping and did a few Google searches and have now spent the best part of the afternoon changing the look of my blogs.  There are still a few changes I want to make but so far so good - Im pleased with both 'new looks'.

Everybody Smile!

The iTunes is on loud,  My Creative Scrapbook kits are out and Im scrapping!  It doesnt get much better than this for a Monday afternoon.

I’ve done this LO this afternoon using the August main kit with a twist. MCS are running a challenge during August to use some packaging on our LO’s.

I used some Prima packaging to create the background for my photo. Its cut into 2 pieces and I have used one side for the top tab and then turned it over for the bottom trim which I punched with my Stampin’ Up notepad punch. I also used a tab from the bottom of a sheet of paper by Simple Stories – does that count as packaging ? Well sort of I suppose.

The photo is me and the kids during our holiday to Scotland back in June. We visited Culzean Castle in Ayr which was absolutely stunning.

Beautiful

Beautiful is exactly what I think this photo of Amy is. It was taken last year at Belfast Zoo. We were there with a whole group of people and while we were standing about chatting about what we were going to see next I glanced over and saw Amy sitting. She didnt see me which I why I love this photo so much. Usually when Amy see’s the camera pointing in her direction I get loads of poses, forced smiles and general messing about, which is fine and great fun but this time it was lovely to just capture her relaxed and in deep thought.

The papers are Authentique Blissful and I have used various blooms some of which came from my very first My Creative Scrapbook kit – the August main kit. I used this sketch from My Creative Sketches:

MCS #1

Now that I have received my first kits from My Creative Book which  are absolutely gorgeous I must say, I am really in scrapping mode – who know’s September could be LO overload! We’ll see .

Its Sketch & Scrap Time

Its the 1st of the month so time to reveal my Sketch & Scrap LO. This months sketch was chosen by Shirley:

S&S August

And here is my LO:

Beach boy

Beach-Boy

The photo is of my son Joe taken this summer down at the beach. As we live just over a mile from one of Co Donegal most beautiful beaches (OK I am just a tad biased!) we spend a lot of time there.

Here’s a close-up of the embellishment clusters. I’ve had some sheets of felt laying about for a while with good intentions of making my own embellishments but until not gotten round to it, so it was good to finally use some of it.
